Love Connections

Our ensembles are continuing to shape original content for our big return to the stage on November 19th. This week, we focused on our loved ones, and all the different ways that we feel and show love.

Our check in question this week was: What is your favorite game to play with your friends and family? We talked about lots of the ways we spend quality time together, from dice games to card games, to Jenga, and more! What’s your favorite?

Letters to our Loved Ones

The Sunday ensemble and members of the Virtual Ensemble thought about people they love who are far away, and worked to craft letters to their loved ones. This text will be used throughout our 11am performance in November

Love is…

In our week #1 interviews, we asked each actor “What does love feel like? Look like? Sound like? Taste Like?” The answers read like a piece of poetry. Here’s what the Sunday and Monday ensembles had to say:

This week, we turned our answers into a game. One of our favorite improvisation games is called “This is A…” To play, we pass a random object around the circle and imagine it as something new. For example, the Monday ensemble turned a black funnel into a microphone, a telescope, an ice cream cone, and a flashlight. We put a new spin on this game this week by passing around a big red heart-shaped pillow. As it came around the circle, each member of the ensemble shared “Love is…” and came up with a personal answer that celebrated all the different ways we love.

In addition to generating this new material, we also took time to review the pieces we’ve built so far and think about how pieces might fit together - the Monday ensemble even tried out a piece of their script to see how it flows!

Devising requires us to use all our best improvisation and team building skills. We’re saying “yes, and…” to each other’s ideas, listening, and being bold! Our teaching artists will continue to shape and refine ideas over the next few weeks to build our original performances. We are so excited to share personal stories and reflections with you for our big return to the stage and can’t wait to RECONNECT with you on November 19th.
