TWO of the fairest stars...

In Week #2 of rehearsals for Romeo & Juliet Remix, we spent some more time with our favorite characters and with dug into the plot of this famous tale.

Taking pictures

Last week, we met all the many citizens of Verona. Between rehearsals, we asked everyone to think about a question: Which character is the MOST like you and which character is the LEAST like you? Then we asked everyone to search around their home to make a costume for one of these characters. We had a blast showing off our costumes when we signed into class and taking pictures of our creations

Here’s Maria as Juliet from the Friday ensemble. She is like Juliet because she is romantic and brave:

Maria stands in her home dressed in costume. She is wearing a white dress with a dark red robe, and a large cord necklace. She has a daisy in her hair.

Making Pictures

From there, we dug into the story through some favorite games like On the Spot and Find Your Frame: The Balcony Scene Edition which uses lines from The Balcony Scene to play one of our favorite Zoom games. We spent the most time in breakout rooms making Tableaux. A Tableau is a picture that tells a story. For inspiration, we used this great One Page summary from the clever folks at Good Tickle Brain:

A comic strip with simple text and stick figure characters covers the entire plot of Romeo & Juliet in just 12 frames!

Working in 4 small groups, actors brought to life one strip of the comic. They thought about different poses and sounds, and then came back together to tell the whole story as one big team. Here are some of the Tableaux from the Friday ensemble:

Practicing our Signs

This week, all ensembles also spent time breaking down the sign language for our Prologue in ASL. Have you beed following along with our #SignSaturday series on YouTube and Instagram? Here’s week #2 if you need to catch up
