Week #8: Setting the Scene

We’ve been hard at work adding movement, puppetry, singing, sign language, and so much more to our 8 original stories for The Forms of Things Unknown. In week #8 our actors worked on screen tests to make sure they are ready for filming. We tested costume pieces, practiced lines, and many actors also made their own backdrops to set the scene in our enchanted forest. Read on to learn how you can add some magic to your room with your very own forest backdrop.

You will need:

  • Large sheet of black craft paper or a posterboard

  • Different colored construction paper

  • Star stickers

  • Glue stick

  • Scissors

  • Tape, blu-tac or something to fix your backdrop to the wall

Instructions:

1. Cut out different tree shapes using your construction paper. You can make some big trees and some little trees. An easy way to do this is to fold part of the paper over and trace half of the tree shape. Then cut it out and unfold.

2. Color in the trunks of your trees and add some branches

3. Glue the trees onto the black paper to show a nighttime forest.

4. Add some stars in the night sky with your stickers.

5. Hang up your backdrop and snap a photo or a short video. You can share it with us on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtags #ABLEensemble and #ThingsUnknown
